Filmmaker/Artist David Lynch Premiers “Diamonds, Gold and Dreams

Consistent with its rich art lineage, Foundation Cartier Pour-L’art Contemporain will be presenting a seven minute film by award winning filmmaker David Lynch entitled “Diamonds, Gold, and Dreams.” The venue to be held at Art Basel Miami between December 4th through 7th will be located at the Cartier Dome in the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens just across form the Convention center. Cartier, an associate sponsor of Art Basel Miami, will host this much anticipated invitation only event.

What to Expect from Diamonds, Gold and Dreams

David Lynch will present his film exhibiting his usual sensual, dreamy and surrealistic style with the expected darker hue that normally accompanies his impressive work. Highlights is said to include gold fabric walls, gold printed carpeting, gold accented furniture with reflective glass tops, and an appearance of the infamous Patiala Necklace. Lynch has a long illustrious career as a visual artist having studied in Philadelphia at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and is the youngest direct to win the Venice Film Festival’s Golden Lion for lifetime achievement.

Cartier and the Patiala Necklace

The exquisite Patiala necklace once belonged to the Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala having five rows of platinum chains encrusted with 2,930 diamonds, including the world’s seventh largest DeBeers diamond. It was missing after 1948 but remnants resurfaced in 1998 with the larger diamonds (including the DeBeers diamond) missing. Cartier using old world techniques restored the Patiala Necklace over 4 years using new stones.
Art Basel Miami, The Place to Be

Cartier will also be featuring a portrait of Lynch as well as a video detailing the making of the 2007 exhibition at Foundation Cartier in the Cartier Dome lounge.
