20 Years of a Wonderful Charity Gala close with a Grande Finale

On October 18th Best Buddies, an international non-profit organization, hosted its 20th and final charity gala event named the Best Buddies Ball 2008. Founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver in 1989, the Best Buddies Ball is annually hosted at the home of Sargent and Eunice Kennedy Shriver in Potomac, Maryland. The proceeds of the event as well as Best Buddies charities go towards benefiting those with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-on-one friendship and employment.

Best Buddies Ball Targets $3 Million as Goal

From numerous sponsorships to silent auctions, a goal of $3 million is expected this year alone. Half of these monies are expected to come from U.S. ticket sales, U.S. sponsors and the silent auction itself. As a result, international Best Buddies groups located throughout the world in various institutions including middle schools, high schools and college campuses benefit from these proceeds.

Celebrity Tom Brady Donated Luxury Car for Auction

Celebrity Tom Brady, quarterback for the New England Patriots and future hall-of-famer, participated in the Best Buddies Ball auctions this year. He donated his 2008 Audi S8 Quattro AT6 for live auction at charitybuzz.com from October 3rd through October 17th. This luxury sports car boasts a 5.2 liter Lamborghini engine with 450 HP with an ability to jump from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds. The exotic sports car custom designed for Mr. Brady is expected to raise over $100,000 alone. Not bad for a piece of celebrity luxury travel.

A Grande Finale But the Charity Continues Strong

As the Grand Finale, this year’s Best Buddies Ball was most extraordinary. Guests were hosted at the luxury accommodations of the Fairmont in Washington D.C. With an average of $70 million generated each year through U.S. and international efforts, more than 350,000 individuals are aided annually.
