October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Celebrity efforts and endorsements can go a long way in providing “star” power quality for luxury travel, goods and services. Likewise, charitable events often utilize celebrities to gain broader appeal. However, in the case of Elizabeth Hurley, there is little need for encouragement for her participation. For years Hurley has been a strong voice for breast cancer research and prevention.

Hurley herself suffered the loss of her grandmother in the 1970’s as a result of breast cancer and also reports that three of her close friends have been diagnosed with the disease under the age of 40. She therefore is a strong advocate of screening mammograms and supports healthy measures that lower breast cancer risk including  diets low in fat.

Hurley Teams Up with Estee Lauder with “Elizabeth Pink”

Hurley has enjoyed a long relationship with Estee Lauder, and her “Elizabeth Pink” lipstick is part of Estee Lauder’s Breast Cancer Awareness campaign providing some of its sales proceeds to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Evelyn Lauder is the founder of this organization which has long since been involved in breast cancer awareness, prevention and treatment investigations.

Hurley Also Partners with Bloomingdales to Raise Research Monies

Most recently, Hurley attended the Pink Ribbon Ball in Amsterdam on 9/28/2008 to kick off October as breast cancer awareness month, and she also hosted the presentation of “Bloomingdales Goes Pink” where she announced that Bloomingdales will be donating portions of sales on selected items for breast cancer research as well.

Bloomingdales offers in-store “The Little Pink Boutique” and online “The Little Pink Book” where shoppers can purchase items that are part of their charitable sales items. The luxury retail store has partnered with Elizabeth Hurley to hopefully one day make breast cancer a thing of the past. Regardless of sales, Bloomindales has committed to donating a minimum of $75,000.
Just Getting Started

For the stunning English model and actress, increasing awareness and prevention hold the key for fighting breast cancer occurrence. She has agreed to team up with Estee Lauder in a campaign to reach younger women and girls about the facts of breast cancer. In addition, Hurley is even exploring her own line of organic foods low in fat which further lower breast cancer incidence.
