The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) will be bringing A-list Hollywood actors and Hollywood insiders to Miami Beach from July 6-9, 2011 for screenings, seminars and soirees. Visionary entrepreneur, Jeff Friday, founded the ABFF and created a much needed and dynamic platform for diverse African-American film content, networking, empowerment and film knowledge to flourish. HBO is the ABFF’s founding and premier sponsor.
ABFF describes their programming initiatives as:
EDUCATION: Traditional teaching methods – workshops, panels and seminars – convey information and knowledge to empower the ABFF audience.
ARTISTIC EXPRESSION: A diverse cross-section of Pan-African films champion creative expression.
COLLABORATION: The festival encourages its attendees to offer support and resources to one another. It has hence become a venue where both the aspiring and accomplished share information for a common goal: building and improving Black cinema.
ACCESS: Networking events and exhibitions provide attendees access to “industry insiders” creating distribution and employment opportunities.
RECOGNITION: Through film competitions and showcases, the festival recognizes and rewards artistic achievement by independent filmmakers
In addition to the independent films that will be shown, festival attendees have a full schedule of events to look forward to such as:
- The “MASTER CLASS” LINEUP WITH ACCLAIMED INDUSTRY EXPERTS MICHAEL ELLIOT, BILL DUKE AND ROBERT TOWNSEND, which will be Intense Workshops for Aspiring Actors, Producers, Writers and Directors
